I Hear Voices! Where Do They Come From?

I Hear Voices! Where Do They Come From?

MENTAL HEALTHMay is Mental Health Awareness month and I recently took a mental first aid class and it was amazing! I learned so much and it just really opened my eyes to the things that many people struggle with. Many things talked about I could totally identify with, like struggling with depression, anger and wanting to kill myself. Yes this is a reality for many people. In fact, Save.org reports that a suicide happens every 12 minutes in the U.S.A. That is serious!

One thing stood out to me in that class room. We were talking about something called audible hallucinations! There are different kinds but this one in particular was talking about how people would hear voices speak to them with no people around. Wow!

And of course in a class room setting like that, people usually stick to the books and teach what most people would agree with! But while sitting there, all I can think was,

What you may not learn in science books, I am going to tell you right here and right now.

There is 1 God in heaven who created the world and every person and thing in it. God has an enemy named Lucifer or the devil. He is the chief fallen angel and the other fallen angels who also rejected God are now called demons. The devil has one goal and one goal only, to kill, steal and destroy Gods creation, us! Every good thing that God does, the devil does the opposite. And just like God speaks good things to build us up,  the devil will speak the very opposite to destroy us.

During the class we watched a video of how this man attempted suicide and how the voices was telling him to kill himself and jump of the bridge, telling him that he was not worth anything and nobody cared.  I want to let you know that these voices have a source, they don’t just come out of thin air, but from the devil. I too have had the devil in my ear telling me lies and to kill myself many times. But becasue I knew who it was ( KEY POINT) and I knew the voice of God, I did not act on what the devil was telling me to do. Understand this, the devil is a coward. He hides behind other people, other names and misidentifications so he wont be found out so that he can continue to keep doing what he does, kill and destroy.

God says in Ephesians 6:10-18

“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. 18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.”

God makes it very clear that there is a spiritual world that we don’t see but you better believe that the enemy sees us and is working diligently to keep us blinded  of his doings. If we are not aware of this spiritual fight then we are losing the battle. There were many situations in the bible where people were harassed and tormented by evil spirits.

Flip Me to Read Mark 9:17,21-22, 25-27

A man in the crowd answered, “Teacher, I brought you my son, who is possessed by a spirit that has robbed him of speech. Whenever it seizes him, it throws him to the ground. He foams at the mouth, gnashes his teeth and becomes rigid…

Jesus asked the boy’s father, “How long has he been like this?” “From childhood,” he answered.  “It has often thrown him into fire or water to kill him…

“When Jesus saw that a crowd was running to the scene, he rebuked the impure spirit. “You deaf and mute spirit,” he said, “I command you, come out of him and never enter him again.”

The spirit shrieked, convulsed him violently and came out. The boy looked so much like a corpse that many said, “He’s dead.”  But Jesus took him by the hand and lifted him to his feet, and he stood up.”

Flip Me to Read Mark 5:2-15

When Jesus got out of the boat, a man with an impure spirit came from the tombs to meet him.  This man lived in the tombs, and no one could bind him anymore, not even with a chain.  For he had often been chained hand and foot, but he tore the chains apart and broke the irons on his feet. No one was strong enough to subdue him.  Night and day among the tombs and in the hills he would cry out and cut himself with stones.

When he saw Jesus from a distance, he ran and fell on his knees in front of him.  He shouted at the top of his voice, “What do you want with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? In God’s name don’t torture me!”  For Jesus had said to him, “Come out of this man, you impure spirit!”

Then Jesus asked him, “What is your name?”

“My name is Legion,” he replied, “for we are many.”  And he begged Jesus again and again not to send them out of the area.

A large herd of pigs was feeding on the nearby hillside. 12 The demons begged Jesus, “Send us among the pigs; allow us to go into them.” 13 He gave them permission, and the impure spirits came out and went into the pigs. The herd, about two thousand in number, rushed down the steep bank into the lake and were drowned.

Those tending the pigs ran off and reported this in the town and countryside, and the people went out to see what had happened.15 When they came to Jesus, they saw the man who had been possessed by the legion of demons, sitting there, dressed and in his right mind;”

I tired Jesus, I asked Him to come into my life, forgive me of my sins and give me peace and freedom from the evil one. And He has done just that. Understand that we are made of body, soul and spirit and things that happen in the spiritual part of us can be seen or heard in the physical part of us. This is also true when you flip it, the things we do in the physical affects our spiritual part. Invite Jesus into your life with your heart and mind and believe that He will heal you and protect you. And through the authority of Jesus and the power of the Holy Spirit tell the enemy to leave! ( this happens with a continual relationship with Jesus)

Medicine is great and I don’t deny its power. But medicine only controls and maintains the situation while Jesus has the power to heal the situation. Stay Encouraged

Romans 10:9  “If you acknowledge and confess with your lips that Jesus is Lord and in your heart believe (adhere to, trust in, and rely on the truth) that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.“
